Back in 2008 we learned that village children under 8 had no access to education as the nearest school was too far away for them to attend. We therefore started a nursery school in what was then a chicken shed with only 8 children. As I write today, we have 7 classrooms providing education for 250 children and this number continues to grow. As such we have a very big job on our hands to provide more school buildings. In addition, the local parents have requested that we expand the school in order to accommodate children up to primary 7 level.
Our desire is that all the children should attend the school for free; we provide free scholastic materials, a free uniform as well as a free meal for all pupils that attend. Of the 254 children registered at the school 140 are sponsored by our friends and well-wishers here in the UK and we are working very hard to ensure that the rest are sponsored too.
The parents have welcomed our suggestion of giving students some business skills and vocational training in primary school so that by the time the child reaches Primary 7 (usually aged 13 ) they would be able to earn themselves a living, even if they are unable to continue on to senior school.
